Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali town to Goma in Congo.
Early morning after breakfast, be picked by the company guide from Kigali city at the lodge where you would have spent the previous night. Enjoy the drive through the rolling hills of Rwanda with beautiful sights of a thousand hills covered with lush tinted green.
This is a 3-4 hour drive to Gisenyi Port. On arrival have a boat ride on Lake Kivu. Rwanda’s largest lake, also a boarder mark between Congo and Rwanda.
After lunch, cross the border to Congo and spend an overnight at your preferred lodge.
Today take an early breakfast and depart to Virunga national park ranger station for a simple briefing from the park authorities on the dos and don’ts of trekkers and then embark on an epic gorilla trek in the jungles.

Trekking the gorillas in Virunga involves a simple hike through the thick lush on the low gentle slopes of Virunga volcano, having to make your way through the jungle to meet one of the six habituated gorilla families in this park.
Finally, encounter the gentle giant apes of the forest and spend an hour watching how they play with each other, jumping from one tree branch to another and how they conduct their daily lives. Nothing is as thrilling as looking directly into the eyes of a silverback, a memory that won’t simply leave your mind. Take as many photos as possible provided the camera doesn’t have a flash.

Day 3: Hiking mount Nyiragongo.
Having had an early delicious breakfast, transfer to the starting point of the volcano trail in Virunga national park, the start of the 6hour hike to the top of Nyiragongo Mountain.
Nyiragongo is an active volcano in the Virunga chained mountains and summiting it presents striking sights of the world’s largest lava crater lake. Hiking starts at 8:00 am to offer hikers enough time to relax at the crater rim in the evening, enjoying the stunning views from the web like lava.
Spend the overnight in tents at the rim of the huge crater above the active lava lake.

Day 4: Descending Mount Nyiragongo and departure.
Have breakfast very early in the morning and then descend down the volcano. Reach the bottom and travel back to the hotel for lunch and refreshments.
Immediately after lunch, transfer back to Kigali where the trip started from for either relaxation or to catch up with the flight home.
